About

At the start
Racing makes me happy

My name is Laura Rice, and I’m 25 and live in the Western mountains of North Carolina. I wouldn’t trade the Appalachian Mountains for anything! I’m married to Kyle, who is wonderfully funny, clever, and amazing. I attended Mars Hill College, graduating in May 2013 summa cum laude with my Bachelor’s degree in Recreation. I have had the privilege of being on the Mars Hill Cycling team, focusing on the mountain bike and cyclocross disciplines, and getting to represent the team at 5 national championships in 2 years.

Since then I’ve continued to be active in the cycling scene tranisitioning from just racing, to promoting and organizing cycling events that promote two wheeled fun. My current race-focused projects include the Hendersonville Summer Short Track Series, the Blue Ridge Mountain Bike Festival, North Carolina Cyclo-Cross series, USA Cycling Collegiate Road Nationals 2015-2016, and USA Cycling Cyclo-cross Nationals 2016 in Asheville, NC. I’m also the organizer of the only women’s cycling team in Hendersonville, Pure Velo Racing.

In the spring of 2015, I’ll reach another educational milestone, graduating from North Carolina State University with a M.S. in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management.

My intention with this blog is to primarily document my training and racing as I explore  racing and its components, lessons, and triumphs.

Enjoy!
